Honorable County Executive and Respectable Members of the County Legislature:
The Suffolk County Hispanic Advisory Board (SCHAB) is pleased to submit its Annual Report for the year 2010 as mandated by Local Law No. 31-2005 § 652-10.
The SCHAB is an organization currently composed of 17 members appointed by some County Legislators and by the County Executive. The purpose of the SCHAB is to discuss issues of importance and relevance to the Hispanic community and to make recommendations regarding proposed legislation to the Suffolk County Legislature and to the Suffolk County Executive regarding advocacy, civic engagement, business development and cultural understanding between the Hispanic Community, Suffolk County government and Suffolk County residents.
With the commitment of each Board member, the assistance of the Director and staff of the Suffolk County Office of Minority Affairs and the input of community leaders/members; the SCHAB was able to perform the mandated duties during the year 2010.
The SCHAB would like to inform you that the findings in this report show that even thou there have been relationships improvements between members of the Hispanic Community and Suffolk County government; there are still delicate needs to address and enhance.
With your support, the SCHAB will continue to be a leading group in advocating and making recommendations that will enhance the quality of life of all Hispanic Americans and their families in Suffolk County.
Sincerely,
Giovanni A. Mata
Chairperson
